The Sock Saga

This morning the teenager asked for socks at 7:30 am. Since no socks have been sent downstairs to be washed in the last 2 1/2 weeks, I had none to offer. As it turns out, none had been sent down because the teenager had been living in one and only one pair. It seems that his other socks, as socks often do, all decided to run away in the middle of the night together to avoid being put through the dreaded washer and dryer. The teenager could not understand how I, the keeper of the laundry, could not provide him with a new pair. Unfortunately my magic knitting needles are on the fritz and my wand hasn't been itself since the last "underwear" incident with the same boy.

I couldn't understand why he was so upset this morning. It was Thursday, according to him, he had been wearing the same socks since Sunday. Keep in mind, the socks are worn to school, then football practice and home from football practice with no shoes because if he wears his shoes after practice with dirty socks, his shoes will get funky. HELLO aren't they funky the second, third or even fourth morning you put them on? I guess the funk finally hit the fan today.

Growing up is hard. It's a sad day and one that many of us remember when we realize mom can't make clean socks appear.
